Job Description:

Heavy Equipment Mechanic needed to travel with crews on out-of-town jobs to keep equipment running. Must have extensive diagnostic and repair experience for heavy equipment including directional drills and off-road equipment. The role requires an individual with knowledge of electrical, diesel, mechanical and hydraulic systems.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to travel approximately 80% of the time.
  • Special consideration given to individuals with maintenance experience on directional drilling equipment.
  • Diagnosis, troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and diesel equipment.
  • Perform root-cause analysis to determine necessary corrective actions.
  • Must have the ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical schematic diagrams and technical repair manuals.
  • Determine and maintain Preventative Maintenance schedules for equipment.
  • Conduct extensive equipment inspections and identify worn and damaged parts.
  • Verify equipment performance by conducting field tests.
  • Maintain equipment service records and analysis of records to prevent future repairs.
  • Spec parts needed for repairs and order from suppliers. Fabrication of some parts may be required.
  • Must have the ability to mentor and develop other shop employees.
  • Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.
  • Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
  • Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
  • Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.

Physical Requirements:

The minimum physical requirements that you must meet in order to perform duties are as follows:

  • Able to lift 80 lbs,
  • Have knowledge and ability to identify and use hand and shop tools.
  • Ability to work in ALL weather conditions; this includes extreme temperatures ranging from -20° to +100°.
  • Work around chemicals.
  • Be able to drive a fork lift.

Position Qualifications:

  • Must have 5 – 7 years’ experience, preferably in the construction industry
  • Have extensive diagnostic and repair experience for heavy equipment including directional drills and off-road equipment.
  • Must have own tools
  • Wage concession will be made for an individual with own truck set up for traveling mechanic
  • Class A license preferable
  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Able to pass a level 4 background screen
