Americom Technologies Inc. is looking for A highly motivated individual to join our team as an underground utility’s construction Superintendent. Americom is the premier utility construction services provider in the western region providing directional drilling, plowing, trenching, spider plowing, hydro excavation, micro trenching, fast fusion, fiber optics and general underground utility construction.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

This position consists of a skilled Equipment Operator who possesses the required knowledge, skill and physical ability to perform construction work in underground utilities. Performs duties as directed by foreman while operating any or all of the following equipment: backhoe, mini-excavator, trenchers, skid steer in the installation or maintenance of underground utilities and pipe installation.

 

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Operating backhoe, mini excavator, directional drill, etc.,
  • Hand digging and pot holing.
  • Work safely in high-risk areas, such as live utilities with knowledge of utility depths and placement.
  • Spot for Utilities
  • Loading Materials
  • Verify locates are correct.
  • Vehicle and equipment inspections, compliance checks and recordkeeping.
  • Ensure vehicles and work site is clean and assist with identifying hazards.
  • Assist with JHA’s and constantly being on the lookout for changing conditions.
  • Wears appropriate safety personal protective equipment and is aware of and follows all established safety practices and procedures.
  • May be required to work during the day, evening or night hours, overtime, weekends and out of town assignments as required.
  • Help train Laborer team members.
  • Skilled worker who possesses the required knowledge, skill, and physical ability to perform construction and maintenance duties related to underground utility construction industry.
  • Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the job and operate within a short time frame as needed.
  • Must work well within a team environment.
  • Load material or equipment for transport from show-up yard to job site and secure as appropriate.
  • Place, remove or maintain underground utilities as directed. This includes but is not limited to carrying pipe, bags of material and other heavy items, jack hammering, shoveling, tamping, and installing pipe, duct, or cable.
  • Acts as a lead man, assisting foreman on the job or in foreman's absence.
  • Operates all equipment required to perform job.
  • Be proficient at equipment preventative maintenance (greasing, fueling, changing basic parts etc.)
  • General material, equipment, and tool inventory, tracking and control – indoors and/or outdoors.
  • Be prepared for Inspections (random and scheduled) for day/night jobsite and building security at job sites, yards, storage areas, offices, fabrication shops, mechanic shops, and other work locations.
  • Parts/materials/tools/equipment delivery and/or pickup – assisted lifting, load/unload.
  • Utility damage prevention: observations, ticket verification/update, locate requests, locate meets.
  • Read and understand the equipment operator’s manual and equipment technology (e.g. GPS or other grade control systems).

 

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • A minimum of 2 years or more of experience operating a Mini-Excavator in the utility construction field.
  • Able to work in confined spaces and open trenches.
  • Ability to complete jobs in a timely manner.
  • Experience with trenchless water, sewer, electrical, and gas.
  • Effective and professional communication skills
  • Experience, minimum 2 years, operating a mini excavator in the utility construction field.
  • Competent person certificates with MSHA and OSHA preferred.
  • Knowledge of MS office, specifically Word and Excel.
  • Proven time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Class A CDL
  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Able to pass a level 4 background check.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Must be customer oriented: ability to take care of the customer while following company procedures.
