LEAD CABLE TECHNICIAN
 

 

Americom Technology LLC (Americom) is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team in our Inside Plant (ISP) department. ISP is responsible for all telecommunications equipment and infrastructure related to low- and high-voltage systems located inside a commercial facility.

JOB SUMMARY

 

The Lead Cable Technician is responsible for managing the on-site installation and integration of structured cable systems across a range of commercial and industrial environments. This senior role provides technical leadership and supervision to field crews, ensuring that all work is executed in compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and industry best practices. The Lead Technician serves as the primary point of contact at the job site, providing direction, mentorship, and quality assurance throughout each phase of the installation.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Lead field installation crews in the deployment, testing, and maintenance of structured cabling infrastructure including copper, fiber optic, coaxial, and wireless systems.
  • Interpret and execute project blueprints, specifications, and network diagrams to ensure accurate installations.
  • Install, terminate, and test structured cabling systems in accordance with current industry standards, including category-rated copper cabling such as Cat6, Cat6A, and Cat8; single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables using the latest connector and splicing techniques; and coaxial and wireless systems to support modern network infrastructure requirements.
  • Install and support low-voltage systems in compliance with current industry standards, including audio/visual (A/V) infrastructure for conferencing and media distribution, access control systems for secure entry management, and CCTV and surveillance systems for comprehensive security monitoring and recording.
  • Conduct and document cable testing and verification using industry-standard tools and procedures.
  • Oversee compliance with BICSI standards, OSHA regulations, and company safety procedures.
  • Maintain daily job documentation including timecards, change orders, equipment logs, and delivery receipts.
  • Communicate proactively with project managers, general contractors, site supervisors, and clients to support project milestones.
  • Supervise and mentor Cable Technicians, providing hands-on training, quality control, and performance feedback.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and technical excellence on the job site.
  • Manage material inventory, tool tracking, and equipment logistics including rentals and returns.
  • Perform vehicle and equipment inspections to ensure operational readiness and compliance.
  • Ensure job site cleanliness and safety, including secure storage of tools, equipment, and materials.

 

EDUCATION AND REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in structured cabling and low-voltage systems.
  • Prior experience in team leadership or crew supervision required.
  • Possession of at least three industry-recognized certifications preferred (e.g., BICSI, CommScope, CNCI, NCTI).
  • High school diploma or GED required; relevant technical certifications preferred.
  • Proficiency with technical tools and devices including punch down tools, continuity testers, tone generators, butt sets, and power tools.
  • Strong understanding of network layouts, structured cabling topologies, and construction documentation.
  • Valid Utah driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and Level 3 background check.
  • Demonstrated expertise in workplace safety practices, PPE usage, and job site hazard mitigation.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to guide team members effectively.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

  • Frequent lifting and carrying of up to 90 lbs.
  • Regular work on ladders, lifts, and in confined or elevated spaces.
  • Field-based work across a variety of indoor and outdoor construction environments.
  • Exposure to extreme weather conditions, dust, and high-noise environments.
  • Availability to travel regionally and work extended hours or weekends when required.
