POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Fiber Splicer Technician Team Lead must have the ability to perform fiber optic splicing as well as understand engineering and splicing drawings. Possess the leadership skills to guide other splicers and achieve the department goals.

 

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Ability to fusion or mechanical splice SM or MM fiber optic cables, to include terminate various types of fiber optic connectors (ST, SC, LC)
  • Work with engineers and/or OSP PM’s to perform fusion splicing as directed.
  • Be able to execute a mid-span sheath entry and splice.
  • Installation and testing of pressurized and non-pressurized closures on all types and sizes of cable.
  • Develop standards and specifications for splice drawings and prepare drawing per the specifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret OTDR results.
  • Installation and dressing of fiber optic cables (vertical/horizontal).
  • Serve as a resource to the internal staff on matters concerning splicing practices and procedures.
  • Develop splicing diagrams and designs to facilitate network architecture.
  • Provide management with detailed reports of field splicing activity.
  • Maintain fiber asset inventory and splicing records.
  • Manage multiple projects at one time.
  • Pull and back up a trailer.
  • Organize splicing as-built files utilizing software packages for in-house fiber cable inventory and route designs.
  • Communicate with Project Manager and Team Leader on workload status in order to meet designated goals.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic that can provide high productivity with minimal supervision.
  • On-going training and education at home or work location.
    • On-the-job task and equipment training.
    • In-person and classroom safety training.
    • On-line safety training.
  • Housekeeping and general clean-up duties – indoors and/or outdoors.
    • Job site, yards, storage areas, office, fabrication shop, mechanic shop, other work locations.
  • General material, equipment, and tool inventory, tracking and control – indoors and/or outdoors.
  • Inspections (random and scheduled) for day/night jobsite and building security at job sites, yards, storage areas, offices, fabrication shops, mechanic shops and other work locations.
  • Parts/materials/tools/equipment delivery and/or pickup – assisted lifting, no load/unload.
  • Utility damage prevention: observations, ticket verification/update, locate requests, locate meets.
  • Read and understand equipment operator’s manual and equipment technology (e.g. GPS or other grade control systems).
  • Vehicle and equipment inspections, compliance checks and recordkeeping.
  • Pressure washing, job-specific tasks, clean up, equipment, vehicles.
  • Raking and spreading materials.
  • Shoveling and digging.
  • Unloading/loading materials, equipment, and tools.
  • Vehicle and equipment preventative/scheduled maintenance.
  • Clerical and/or paperwork as needed.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Knowledge of MS office specifically Work and Excel.
  • Proven time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Able to pass a level 4 background check.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Must be customer oriented: ability to take care of the customer while following company procedures.

EDUCATION:

 

  • High School diploma or GED is preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Experience, minimum 5 years IN A PREVIOUS SIMILAR SPLICING POSITION
  • A minimum of 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Have a certification and experience with a major manufacture of fusion splice machines. (Corning, Fujikura, Fitel)
  • Have a certification experience and knowledge using Fiber Optic Scope and or a Fiber OTDR. (Corning, JDSU, Fluke)

New full-time employees are eligible for benefit enrollment at 30 days and 401k elibility the 1st of month following 60 days with holiday pay, PTO accrual eligibility the 1st of the month following 90 days.
